Day Trip to Mud Volcanos, Ateshgah and Yanar Dag
We booked a day trip with a local tour provider in the old city for $35 where they took us to see the Mud Volcanos, Ateshgah, Yanar Dag, ancient carvings, and a beautiful mosque.
The mud volcanos were constantly naturally bubbling. The Ateshgah Fire Temple is a holy place for Zorastians, who believe fire is medium to communicate with spirits. The Yanar Dag is a natural gas burning fire coming from the earth. The constant burning flames are believed to be discovered in 1950 when a shepard accidentally lit the side of the hill on fire. We also went to the art center just outside of Baku. I forget the specific name of it but it was shaped sort of like a spaceship!
